SUMMARY:Miranda Aisling Folk Concert at Manship Artists Residency
DESCRIPTION:MIRANDA AISLING FOLK CONCERT at Starfield\, the home of the Manship Artists Residency \nwith Matt Lefebvre on bass and Phil Benjamin on guitar \nSunday\, 21 September\, 2:00 pm \nRegister for concert online at this link. \nJoin local interdisciplinary artist Miranda Aisling (ash-lean) for a folk concert at the Manship Artists Residency on Sunday\, September 21 at 2:00 PM. Aisling will be joined by musicians Matt Lefebvre on bass and Phil Benjamin on guitar\, adding rich layers to her evocative folk sound. Bring your lawn chair or blanket to enjoy this weather-dependent outdoor concert. \nAisling’s original folk songs blend frank vulnerability with insightful social commentary. A classically trained pianist who shifted from Bach to the Indigo Girls\, she brings the lively spirit of a folk festival to her performances\, engaging audiences with a mix of sung and spoken storytelling. \nAisling will be performing alongside “Gathering\,” an installation of her ceramic sculpture on display at Manship from August 22 – September 28. This outdoor installation is a continuation of her ongoing series\, the Chubby Clay Bodies\, a light-hearted\, celebratory exploration of the natural shapes and forms found both in people and in pottery. These voluptuous\, tactile pots are wheel-thrown and hand-altered in Aisling’s pottery studio in the Gloucester community of Lanesville. \nSince moving to Gloucester in 2019\, initially as one of the first artists in residence at the Manship Artists Residency\, Aisling has performed at the Manship Artists Residency\, the Rocky Neck Cultural Center\, the Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation\, and MAGMA (Movement Arts\, Gloucester\, MA). As a member of the Treehouse Charlatans\, she has performed at the Lanesville Music Festival\, Ipswich Riverwalk\, Gloucester Block Party\, the Cape Ann Museum\, and Art in the Barn. \nRegister for concert online at this link.

SUMMARY:Closing of Heavenly Earth Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:See “Gathering of Earthen Bodies” by Miranda Aisling on display in the Heavenly Earth exhibition at Manship Artists Residency through September 28 2025! Open Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 – 5:00 pm or by appointment. \n— \nCape Ann has long been a site of innovation in the field of ceramics. Frank H. Norton—MIT professor\, accomplished potter\, and close friend of Paul Manship—developed pioneering glazes and industrial applications for ceramic materials. He shared his special clay with local sculptors George Demetrios and Walker Hancock\, and his significant historic pottery collection now resides at the Museum of Fine Arts\, Boston. \nRecognizing that Cape Ann ceramic artists continue to explore and expand new possibilities in this medium\, Potter Marty Morgan suggested that an exhibition of outdoor ceramic works be exhibited at the Manship Artists Residency site in 2020. Although the exhibition was delayed by the pandemic\, the vision endured. \nIn the fall of 2024\, Marty Morgan joined with her colleague Anni Melançon-Hughes\, and MARS Executive Director Rebecca Reynolds to revive this project. They invited more than 40 artists to submit existing works or proposals for new\, large-scale pieces that challenged the boundaries of their studio practice. And in the spring of 2025\, jurors Donna Hassler and Sharon Bates were invited to help realize that original vision by organizing a juried exhibition of contemporary outdoor ceramics. \nThe exhibition title\, Heavenly Earth\, evokes the extraordinary beauty of this historic setting while inviting varied interpretations. The 14 selected artists responded with a range of compelling works that reflect both the thematic prompt and the site’s natural and cultural significance. The works were thoughtfully reviewed by the jurors to create a cohesive exhibition sited across the Starfield landscape. \nEach artist was also invited to present smaller-scale pieces in Paul Manship’s historic barn studio\, offering visitors a deeper look into their individual practices and artistic evolution. We invite you to join us in celebrating the illustrious past\, dynamic present\, and promising future of ceramic art on Manship’s heavenly earth.
