the idea: use spray gesso on a knitted canvas with a lace pattern
This is actually an idea that I did a while ago. It took up a lot of space in my studio and in the end didn’t actually work. The spray just wasn’t thick enough to make the knitting into something solid and paintable. I’ve put a layer of regular gesso on top of the canvas since then and may need to do one more before the actual painting begins.
But the reason this old idea came back up today was because for the first time in months I went back into my studio to actually paint! Yes!
To do this I had to move the gesso sprayed canvas from the middle of my studio floor and because of the pattern of the knitting it left an incredible pattern behind. If I didn’t need that tarp to save the floors I would definitely cut it out as art itself.
