the idea: spend the longest day of the year at the beach reading incredible books
For some people, this may not be a brand new concept, but for me it was truly revolutionary. There are a couple reasons.
1.) I am not good at relaxing. I have so many ideas and they make me so happy that I rarely want to step away from them, but sometimes it’s just necessary.
2.) Until very recently I didn’t have a car, so getting to the beach was extremely difficult. Today, I had to get over the hurdle of being comfortable just getting in the car and not exactly knowing my destination. This wasn’t quite as romantic as it sounds, I had a GPS and before I left had done some serious Googling, but still, for little miss Boston-bound, it was a big step.
3.) I went alone. A few years ago, the thought of going alone somewhere that most people went in groups would have taken the whole thing out of the question. Instead, I would have stayed home and, if it were a good day, made art. Now, for a long time this was actually a very helpful mindset because it helped me make a lot of art, but today was time to change that. I slept in, looked up the beach, got in the car, and spent the afternoon by myself amidst a crowd, accompanied only by a book and a notebook, and it was wonderful.
Here’s to steps forward.
