Idea No. 26: 100 Six Word Stories

Last year for Christmas my sister continued her tradition of getting me a page a day calendar.  The calendar had a six-word story on every page.  As I went through the year, the stories continued to intrigue me and in the end they inspired my first real-world community art project: What’s Your Story?

In order to prepare for a project where I was asking participants to create a six word story, I started to make one of my own every night.  Around the time that I decided to do this I also began a new journal.  I’m always looking for little projects to make my journal more interesting.  For a while I drew silly little sketches at the end of every post.  With my project in mind, I decided to start off every entry with a six word story.

The journal is less than halfway done and the stories continue to pile up, but as of last night I hit a hundred so here is the beginning:

100 Six Word Stories

September 21, 2012 through December 30, 2012

  1. I am inspired by children’s art.
  2. Make sure you do something everyday.
  3. We love when people tell stories.
  4. Life: long conversations with good people.
  5. Spent money on the right things.
  6. Through sharing ideas I create ideas.
  7. I try my best to listen.
  8. I’ll never stop daring to dream.
  9. Every new person opens a door.
  10. I believe that everyone is creative.
  11. Time is the most precious commodity.
  12. Constant evolution is a tiring process.
  13. Strong support is necessary for survival.
  14. Warm beds on cold winter nights.
  15. Today a new story was born.
  16. There’s always more places to go.
  17. Saying what’s on your mind helps.
  18. All you can do is try.
  19. Learning to love is a process.
  20. The crash course in creativity arrives.
  21. Every step can be a breakthrough.
  22. Once again, the bottle has tipped.
  23. Just suck it up and play.
  24. Insecurities feed anger and destroy trust.
  25. Every small step gets you closer.
  26. All or nothing. A constant rollercoaster.
  27. I’m learning how to outsmart myself.
  28. Never assume it’s simple for everyone.
  29. To work is to have purpose.
  30. Art and people bring us together.
  31. Staying on track is not easy.
  32. One spark can make big fires.
  33. I am more than my age.
  34. Try your best to smile anyway.
  35. I can’t always be the best.
  36. Always did cartwheels in ballet class.
  37. Even I can’t fix it all.

  39. Finally learned how to step away.
  40. Don’t wait to make that call.
  41. Never teach after school on Halloween.

  43. Grief is a current, always pulling.
  44. I skipped all the crazy parties.
  45. What I wanna read, I write.
  46. I create to fulfill my life.
  47. Obama is reelected. Four more years!
  48. Welcome back winter, its been months.
  49. And the bottle has tipped again.
  50. The day after is always brighter.
  51. A year is a long time.
  52. Eleven is still my lucky number.
  53. Was that just a whole day?
