A New Idea: Monday’s Creative Activities

Making sure I keep up my writing is always difficult when my life restarts.  Fall has come and I’m both teaching and attending a new set of classes.  But I want to make sure I don’t neglect what I’ve been trying to build here.  I’ve come up with a new idea as far as making sure that I write at least once a week and getting people to start up interesting conversations.

Every Monday I’m going to post a new creative activity.  I’m not sure what I’m going to call this series yet, but the idea would be that I’d come up with something almost anyone can do in their day to day life.  People watching, looking out for specific objects, going to a music event, counting the number of times you see a certain color.  One of the most important things I do as an artist is paying attention to my surroundings.

When I’m in a creative mood, which is about 85% of the time, I walk through the world in a different way than I do/did when I’m not.  I see things that I would normally overlook, appreciate things that I would normally pass by, and generally pay more attention.  Awareness is a key skill in creativity.  It goes hand in hand with sensitivity because both come down to the ability to read and be in your environment.

So each Monday I’ll put up a new activity and people can either dedicate an hour, a day, or the whole week to it.  If they take any photographs or write anything down I’ll ask them (you) to send it to me.  Then I can start gathering some information about what everyday people do to make their life just a little bit more interesting.
