I got some beautiful pens for a project I did for my grandparents while in Michigan and tonight, as my family settled down to watched a movie, I decided to put them to use once again.
I’ve never been much of a doodler. The “artistic” kids in school could sketch people while they were sitting in class but all I could ever do were designs. Or one type of cartoon dog.
This was actually one of the things that made me feel the most like I couldn’t be an artist. My doodles weren’t inspiring, they weren’t the beginnings of art pieces, they were just little ideas, little strokes put together on the edge of a paper.
Well tonight’s movie, Meet Joe Black, was fairly long and I wasn’t supposed to be paying attention to a lecture, so I had a lot of time to focus on my little strokes and in the end they developed into something interesting. I’ve learned, in my years of doodling, that given the effort and the time even my strange designs can come together.
