Idea No. 45: How long for a ponytail?

I can be a fairly stubborn person.  Particularly when it comes to decisions I’ve made specifically for myself.

Back in May of 2011, I cut my hair yet again.  For about six years before that my hair style was constantly “growing.”  I would cut it to my ears and then grow it for about a year and a half.  Then I would cut it, donate it, and start over.  Finally, I decided to try something new.  I was graduating college and heading to Boston so I had an idea, why don’t I cut it all off?

I did, and it was fun.

The problem is, when you have short hair you have to cut it all the time.  True, you don’t have to brush, but it’s still expensive, and troublesome.

At the end of July I had another idea, why don’t I see how long it will take to grow my hair out?

The answers online were varied and unhelpful.  Most of the information just came down to, a couple of months to a year.  Really specific right?  Well, after almost exactly six months, I can finally get my hair back into a ponytail.  I’ve been through several awkward stages, cut my own bangs twice with minimal damage (I did look like one of the Beatles for a while if I didn’t sweep my hair right), and my hair still looks more like a short hair cut grown out than long hair, but even what my mother called a “deer butt” ponytail is better than nothing.

Unfortunately, until I can get the ponytail without the headband my stubbornness will not cede and so I continue to grow.

Tune in later for more fascinating hair ideas.
