Street Salsa

It’s always hard to decide what to write about when I actually sit down and give myself a moment.  If I had written yesterday I would have described driving the 13 person MFA on the Move van over the Tobin Bridge in torrential rain with 13 girls in the back counting the seconds between the thunder and the lightening.  But I didn’t have time to write yesterday and today I was at the Dance for World Community Festival in Harvard Square and that’s all that is on my mind.

It was an absolutely gorgeous day, particularly in comparison to the storms that have been sweeping over Boston all week.  The sky was blue, the clouds were white and puffy, and I was sitting outside for four hours at the Springstep table at the dance festival.  Needless to say, I excused myself for a sunscreen/sunglasses run early in the day, neither of which I have dug out of my closet, and as of yet I remain sunburn-free!

There was a good-sized crowd as the day went by, fluctuating throughout the day like all crowds do.  About an hour into the festival Ulrich and Sam, my fellow co-founders of the STUDIO of Possibilities and the instructors of the Salsa Classroom, showed up with a speaker and some music wearing the shirts I had hastily made for them the night before which had “Come dance with me” written on the front.

Many people did indeed respond to the shirts message, or maybe it was to the overly gregarious guys wearing them, and soon we had a salsa/zumba marathon happening in front of the Springstep table.  I did a couple of the dances, but then I fell back on my camera.  As always, I’d like to point out that I’m a painter not a photographer.  But, keeping that in mind, some of these pictures turned out really well!
