Idea No. 57: The Idea Can meets Children’s Literature

the idea: write a children’s book about a girl with her own Idea Can

I’ve been thinking a lot about my new project, the Idea Can, lately.  It’s a concept I want to spend some more time exploring, although right now it’s on the backburner thanks to my thesis.

One of the ways I thought I could explore it would be by writing a story about a child who has her own Idea Can.  I’ve always loved the idea of writing a children’s book, I actually had to make one for an assignment in undergrad.  That’s where the picture for this post came from.

This book would follow a little girl whose world was full of her ideas.  So full, that she started putting them into the Idea Can.  But for her the Idea Can wouldn’t just be an object, it would be a place she could go into.  Some magical combination of Mary Poppin’s bag and the wardrobe that opened into Narnia.

In her world she would be able to make her ideas come true and watch as they transformed in front of her.  The story could end with her coming out of the Idea Can to make in real life something she saw in her mind.

It’s just the beginning of an idea, but now that it’s here it has a chance to take root and grow into something interesting.
