the idea: have a community paint a windmill for their town
This is actually the first community art idea I ever had back when I was a junior in college. My college was basically one huge hill which got quite windy sometimes, so I thought it would be a fun project to try to get a windmill on campus. As an art student, I took this idea a step farther and thought that I could make a windmill/sculpture as my senior thesis.
Of course, then I realized just how much organizing/work/money that would take and so the idea stayed just that, an idea.
Today I was taking the bus with my friend Amy Beth and we passed by the windmill in Sullivan Sq. She told me how beautiful she thought it was, and how she couldn’t see why so many people call windmills eyesores. This, in turn, brought up my college windmill idea.
With the addition of my community art learning the idea has expanded a bit. As a form of green energy awareness and community growth, I’d like to have a community work together to paint a windmill that would go up in their town. Sounds like a good project for a future art center, right?
