the idea: ask other people to knit canvasses which I can then paint on
collaborator: Susan Frank
My knitted canvasses, and my visual art in general, have taken a back seat during the first part of this year. Don’t Make Art, Just Make Something saw to that, rather appropriately now that I think about it. But at one point I was at the screening of a documentary and I got to talking, as I often do, about my artwork. At this point, my conversation partner was Susan Frank, a music teacher from Maine who, it turned out, was also a knitter.
She loved the idea of my knitted canvasses and was especially interested when I told her that in my next vision of this project, I find some way to make it communal. As a first step down that path, I was hoping to have other people knit my canvasses and send them to me. Only once so far have I painted on something that someone else knitted, when I traded a coffee for a pair of cabled mittens. But now, with Susan’s help, the next step of this series is truly underway!
Anyone else want to knit me something?
