Recently I’ve been working on making my songs less… obvious. I love metaphors and always have. I’ve used them since I was a young girl comparing my feelings to pudding that could be eaten.
I began writing this song by just playing around with sounds on the guitar. I found a couple lyrics but at first I was forcing them into it and the song felt stunted. After two verses of hit-them-over-the-head-with-what-you’re-saying style lyrics, I wrote a single line:
“You were the wolf, I was red riding hood”
There was my metaphor. In fact, there was my whole song. I scrapped everything I had written so far and started over, ultimately making this song.
Lyrics to Fairytales:
You were the wolf, I was red riding hood,
You were the king, I was the run away princess
You were the monster in all the fairytales
And I was stuck before the happy ever after
I went to your house, ready for adventure
Waiting inside, was another disaster
After some time, I learned the plot
I read enough fairy tales, to know what not to do.
But you were the wolf, blowing down my door,
My little straw house, didn’t stand a chance.
I built it stronger, but you just came back
And blew it down again
I was a baby, you were old Rumpelstiltskin,
Playing your mind games, to keep me from my mother
My bitter resentment it just grew and grew
I anxiously waited til I could outsmart you.
You were a Scar when I wanted a Mufasa
You were so far from the father of my dreams
It took me years to move past the anger
And see that my fairytale might not be what it seemed
You were the King and I was little Snow White
You disappeared, and left me with our life
I saw you everyday, but knew that you weren’t there,
Cause it took you years to care
Yes it took you years, to care
For my fairytale.

But, what about this?consider this, what if you were to write a killer headlinetitle?content?typed a catchier title? I ain’t saying your content isn’t good.ain’t saying your content isn’t gooddon’t want to tell you how to run your blog, but what if you added a titlesomethingheadlinetitle that grabbed people’s attention?maybe get a person’s attention?want more? I mean %BLOG_TITLE% is a little vanilla. You might peek at Yahoo’s home page and watch how they createwrite post headlines to get viewers to click. You might add a related video or a pic or two to get readers interested about what you’ve written. Just my opinion, it might bring your postsblog a little livelier.
