Idea No. 47: Book Cards

The idea:  make business cards for books

On Thursday the thesis seminar for my master’s degree will meet for the first time.  For my thesis I plan to write a book and create a workshop that goes along with it.  (More to come on that later!)

I’m planning to create the whole book by hand and with this idea in mind I’ve done a couple quick sketches for the cover.  One of them was on a small “art traders” card, a.k.a. a small blank business cards.  These cards are made by various paper companies with the idea that as an artist you can do a small piece on them and then trade them with another artist.  Unfortunately, my form of art doesn’t really fit with this so instead I used the card for something else, sketching out the cover of my thesis.

I’ve had this card floating around in my backpack for a while and recently I started using it as a bookmark.  Today I was having dinner with a lovely new friend and we were talking about the book I want to write.  I remembered that I had the card and pulled it out so that I could show her.  As I did I thought, ‘wow, I wish I had more than one so I could just give it to her,’ and BAM! the idea was born.

Once I finalize my cover I’ll make business cards for my book/workshop.  On the front will be the cover and on the back will be information on where to get the book, where to sign-up for the workshop, and how to get in contact with me.  I can’t wait!
