the idea: take the time to go see the DC cherry blossoms
Although I went to school in Virginia for college and during that time made went of the semesterly art trips to DC, I never got to see the cherry blossoms until today. To be honest, I’m sure I didn’t see them right. I’ve been told by a couple people that the best time to see the cherry blossoms is at the crack of dawn, around 6:00. Instead, I found my way to them at about 7:45 pm when there was just a little bit of light left in the sky.
It wasn’t a particularly awe-inspiring experience. They were pretty flowers. It was nice.
But I am glad to say that I did finally see them, because sometimes the point isn’t the experience itself, it’s the participation in the memory of a larger experience.
Some year I hope to come back to see the cherry blossoms at 6:00 am, but we all have to do it one step at a time.
