the idea: go out and see a local musician play
Yesterday I went to see my incredibly talented friend, Emily Schonberg, play at the Burren in Davis Square. As an extremely biased observer, I can say that she seriously kicked ass. If you don’t believe me, check out some of the videos below.
But I also thought about the importance of going out to see local musicians, even if you’re not friends or friends-of-friends with them. As a musician myself, I can tell you how much just one face in the crowd means. As a listener, I can tell you that it’s worth it to see someone like Emily who is bursting with raw talent and still full of the excitement of just getting up on stage and making music.
Also, in the second video, Emily invited anyone in the audience not to just clap along but to pull out an instrument if they had one. Gotta love a good music scene where she got a bass and a banjo as well as several clappers.
