Idea No. 191: Don’t look at the clock

the idea: when having a wonderful evening don’t look at the clock

I am obsessed with time.  Probably because I’m a teacher, although I think it came before that.  I always want to know what time it is, how much time I have left, etc.  The only time I lose track of time is when I’m deeply immersed in making something.  Painting, writing, playing guitar or piano, those are when it usually happens.

But tonight I lost track of time thanks to another event: a wonderful and inspiring dinner.  Ideas flew overhead carried on continuous conversation that lasted through dinner and into the evening.  We talked across topics and back again, neither of us looking at the clock.

Finally the night sky clued me to what time it was, as did my own exhaustion, and after three and a half hours it was time to go.  I got up at exactly 11:12, you remember these things.

The most amazing things can happen if you just forget about what time it is.
