Idea No. 75: Miranda Aisling, Ideator

the idea: become a professional Ideator

I thought that I was a genius on the train this morning when I thought of the word ideator for someone who creates ideas:

idea + creator = ideator

Unfortunately, Google found several people for me who had already had this stroke of genius.  For a moment this was a dissapointment but after some reflection I think it’s a good thing.  Although the Oxford Dictionary does not recognize “ideator” as a word it has already entered the verbal atmosphere on some level.

Freedictionary.com defines ideator as “a person experiencing serial ideation.”  So there’s actually a word for having an idea: to ideate, ideation, there are so many different conjugations!

Anyway.  Although I identify as an artist, specifically as a painter, what captures me most isn’t the creation of paintings but the creation of ideas.  Being an artist is more of a by-product of the fact that I am an ideator.  As is being a writer, musician, teacher, the list goes on.

I’m not sure if I’m going to like this word tomorrow, but for now I’m thinking of changing my business cards to Miranda Aisling, Ideator because in all honesty that’s what I am and that’s what I would like to make a life doing.
