During my first year in Boston, I didn’t spend nearly as much time as I liked doing art. Now, that’s changed. Since the summer I’ve been spending at least a few hours each week in my little studio, slowly getting more paint over everything. I’ve finished a good amount of paintings, compared to the one painting I completed in my first year. But that’s not all, I haven’t just been making art, I’ve been trying to do stuff with it.
What if I actually applied to a show?
The idea hit me not too long ago and I actually responded to one of the emails forwarded to me about a call for artists. I thought, how can it hurt? The thing about online applications like that is once you send it away, it just fades into the background. If you don’t expect to hear back, you’re either not influenced or happily surprised. Amazingly, I was the later. Twice!
Since my random thought, I have been accepted into two art shows, both of which are about to go up. I dropped off my first piece at the Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown, MA. It was the first painting that I’ve been able to show since college, mostly because it was the first time I actually tried. Hopefully this means that if I keep trying I’ll get into more!
