A new Michael’s opened up near my graduate school recently and my next dip into my art grant to myself has now happened. Thankfully, I buy super saver yarn and only bought as much as I did because it was on sale. But, as you can see from the picture, it was still a lot.
As a frugal, poor graduate student, I tend to be on the side of not spending money. But when I was in Porter Square two hours early for class and saw that the new Michael’s had finally opened it was too good to resist. Next came the fact that all of the yarn that I use was on sale, it was like the world was telling me to get over my obsession with spending as little money as possible. In that moment, I did.
I walked out of Michael’s with about fifteen skeins of yarn in a whole array of colors. Vibrant blue, deep burgundy, black, and a sunflower yellow. For my knitted canvasses I’ve decided to try and pay more attention to the knitting on the back. The latest canvas is going to be a pattern of repeating diamonds with strips alternating between neon green and a rich teal. One the canvas has been gessoed and painted, most people won’t see the knitting on the back, but since I have to stare at it for at least a couple of weeks while I knit it I might as well use as many bright colors as I can!
Unfortunately, the increased amount of yarn in my life means I’ve been knitting a lot. While this is good for my productivity, it is causing some distress for my wrist. So now I’ve pulled out my wrist guard and sit along, knitting, with a wrist guard. Graduate student going on grandma. But hey, whatever works right?
Wow, this piece of writing is nice, my sister is analyzing such things, thus I am going to inform her.
