Today’s relationship party celebrated the eighth year of my sister’s relationship. She’s been dating the same person since she was 14, which in and of itself is incredible. Not to mention four years spent on different continents. People from both sides of the family came (which actually means from all four sides when you have divorced and remarried parents) as well as friends from across the country and, actually, the world.
A lot of people talk about how the family is falling apart nowadays but in truth it’s just shifting. Tonight was a perfect example of a Modern Family. In the end it’s all the same thing: a bunch of people coming together to support and care for each other.
Definitely not a bad way to start a new year.
